Contrary to popular belief, you lose most of your body heat through your hands and feet in the water, particularly when you don't keep them covered in thermals or neoprene. This is particularly important for ocean swimming or open water swimming because not being within arms reach of the pool edge adds an element of risk - a trade-off that's worth not having to fight for space in pool lanes and for the added scenery and freedom. But it also means it's much more important to make sure you're not at risk of having issues due to the cold, making gloves an essential part of your swimming kit.
Depending on your environment you'll need thicker or thinner neoprene. Given that water temperatures vary widely throughout Australia, we stock a wide range of thicknesses from paper-thin 0.5mm neoprene through to thick 5mm gloves to accommodate for swimmers in all locations. You also have the option of wearing thermals underneath your neoprene gloves for extra warmth.
