Sharkbanz 2.0 Shark Deterrent Bands are active shark-deterrence devices that use a strong magnet to create disturbance waves that impede on the electro-receptors sharks use to locate living prey. Every muscular movement creates small electrical currents that can be detected by the shark's electro-receptors, called Ampulae of Lorenzini, which are primarily a mechanism for navigation but they also assist locate living prey within the last few meters. As a shark moves through the magnetic field of the earth, the field creates charges in these electro-receptors (due to electromagnetic induction) and the idea behind these bands is that they create 'sensory overload' in these organs, similar to a human listening to suuper loud music or staring into the sun.

Sharks can spend many minutes assessing the potential of a possible target and rely on multiple senses to do so, these include sight, electro-reception, pressure changes and olfactory (smell and taste).
