When you're snorkelling, more of your body is submerged than if you're say surfing or swimming in the shallows - and this means you get colder a lot quicker. Fitting a kids wetsuit properly isn't the easiest thing, but we can offer some important advice.
Neoprene is stretchy! With this in mind, you're probably better off avoiding buying a few sizes to big to accommodate for a growth spurt. For the most part, neoprene will stretch over time and deal with growth fairly well. Buying a better fitting wettie means that cold water won't be constantly flushing through the wetsuit - but we want to avoid buying something they'll grow out of in one season.
The only part that doesn't stretch is the zipper. Basic entry-level wetsuits have a back zip which limits the height that your child can grow in the suit. If you are looking for a wetsuit that will tolerate more growth, consider kids wetsuits that have a chest zip, or no zip.
Regardless of whether you opt for a full-length wetsuit (known as a steamer) or a short arm and leg wetsuit (known as a spring suit), the wetsuit will keep them warm in almost all conditions and will get them multiple seasons when cared for correctly.
