When you're swimming you'll lose most of your body heat through your extremities - your hands and your feet, particularly when they aren't wrapped up in some neoprene or thermals. When partaking in open water swimming or ocean swimming outside of the confines of the pool, you trade off a lot of your safety for the scenery, space and unrestricted feeling. That's why it's more important than ever to make sure you're able to withstand the cold. That being said, swim socks might be required for pool swimming, for example when pool heating doesn't quite cut it during the winter.
Depending on your environment you'll need thicker or thinner neoprene. Given that water temperatures vary widely throughout Australia, we stock a wide range of thicknesses from paper-thin thermals through to thick 5mm socks to accommodate for swimmers in all locations. You also have the option of wearing multiple socks if you're in colder environments, or thermals underneath your neoprene socks for extra warmth without having to go up a size.
