Patagonia's R4 Range of wetsuits, boots, hoods and gloves are seriously warm and seriously comfy surfing and diving wetties. Featuring recycled polyfleeces and a natural approach to rubber harvesting. Patagonia consider their wetsuit range by climate, not just by thickness and this is because they consider parts of the wetsuit that add to warmth such as the seam and zip. The Patagonia wetsuit range is defined by R1, R2, R3 and R4 - the higher the number the warmer the suit.
They suggest 3-9°C conditions, and that's their guide, in the real world it all depends on personal tolerance to the cold, wind and basal metabolic rate. We are more comfortable recommending the R1 range from 7-13°C especially if the off-shores are pushing or you're diving. You're better off being warm than cold - if you're diving with gloves, hood and booties than you could definitely achieve comfort within their recommended temperature range.
